When contemplating what I wanted to do after graduating from Carleton, I knew that I was ready to break free from the academic bubble and dive into a wider world. I wanted to put the knowledge and skills I’ve gained over the past four years to real life, practical use. After searching through dozens of research and nonprofit positions, I found myself accepted into the perfect fellowship program: PULSE, which stands for Pittsburgh Urban Leadership Service Experience.
The PULSE mission is to cultivate a community of young servant leaders to transform Pittsburgh. PULSE invites recent college graduates to partner with local nonprofits for a year of service and leadership. The PULSE program sparked my interest because I would not only get to work in a nonprofit organization for a year, but I would get to explore a new city, hone my leadership skills through leadership trainings and community involvement, and live with other recent college graduates whose interests greatly intersect with my own.
As I prepare for the August 24 start date, I feel increasingly excited to DO something in the world and be a part of social change. Even though I do not yet know which nonprofit I will be working for, I can’t wait to put my degree in Sociology and Anthropology to use - and possibly my Russian language skills as well! My hope for the year is to clarify my future career goals, which I will achieve by applying myself to service and surrounding myself with driven PULSE peers in a lively and engaging city. The upcoming year will be exciting and transformative; August 24 can’t come soon enough.
Part of my first task as a PULSE fellow is to assemble a team of people who will support me in this work. I can reach much farther with friends and family accompanying my journey and cheering on the change I will accomplish.
Would you please consider supporting me in this work? I am in the process of raising a minimum of $2500 to cover expenses for a full year of service. Any amout will go a long way! Just click on the donate button on this page.
If you are unable to support me financially, don't worry about it! I am so very grateful to have you as a friend/family and I will gladly keep you in the loop with my fellowship experience. Thank you so much for your continued investment in my life and in PULSE!
