My name is Annie Cotton Morris, a lifelong resident of Woodside, Queens, and the President of the Woodside Houses Tenants Association Executive Board and a proud alumnus of P.S. 151Q (graduated 1961).
Today is 529 Day! (May 29th) 529 Day is an opportunity for all of us to come together to honor the collective steps that families, schools and communities are taking to build a financial foundation for our youngest students' educational futures. We are so proud that in our community through the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program, every student in public school (Community District 30) in Kindergarten, First, Second and Third grade already has an account for college and career - unless their family decided not to participate.
Our children are the leaders of tomorrow, and they need to be reminded about all the possibilities that are available to them.
To mark 529 Day, the Woodside Houses Tenants Association Executive Board is launching a fundraising campaign for these young students at one of our wonderful local schools (and my elementary school alma mater) - P.S. 151Q. P.S. 151Q is a founding school in the Save for College Program and has been working tirelessly with families to view and activate their NYC Scholarship Accounts, and organizing other college and career themed activities to support our children to dream big!
There are 165 Kindergarten, First, Second and Third graders with a NYC Scholarship Account at P.S. 151Q. They have each received a starting balance of $100 set aside for their college and career education from NYC Kids RISE. This fundraising campaign seeks to double that amount and support every child with an existing NYC Scholarship at P.S. 151Q to receive an additional $100 in their NYC Scholarship account! We seek to raise $16,500 by P.S. 151Q’s Kindergartners graduation on June 22nd!
Will you join us in supporting our kids and showing them we are here to help them get to where they want to go in the future?
Your donation will go to NYC Kids RISE, which will distribute ALL monies raised directly to the NYC Scholarship Accounts of participants in the NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program that attend P.S. 151 (according to the record on file with the NYC Department of Education). All contributions to NYC Kids RISE are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by applicable law. Contributions can be made via the donate button or by making a check payable to NYC Kids RISE and mailing it to:
