While many of us are safely quarantined at home, healthcare workers throughout the country and around the world are going to work and exposing themselves to coronavirus in an effort to save lives and slow the spread of this virus so that all of us can get back to our normal lives. Healthcare workers rely on personal protective equipment to protect themselves and their patients from being infected and infecting others, but there is a shortage of supplies available. These shortages are leaving doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers dangerously ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients, due to limited access to supplies such as gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, face shields, gowns, and aprons.
I am one of the lucky ones working from home right now and wanted to show my support by donating to a cause that helps provide the necessary medical supplies and safety equipment to healthcare workers.
After doing extensive research to pick an organization that aligned with this goal, I decided on Direct Relief (100/100 for Accountability & Transparency on Charity Navigator). Direct Relief is a non-profit based in Santa Barbara that is coordinating with public health authorities and businesses in the U.S. and globally to provide personal protective equipment and essential medical items to healthcare workers responding to coronavirus. In the U.S., Direct Relief is delivering protective masks – along with exam gloves, isolations gowns, and other protective gear to healthcare organizations across the country. So far, they have delivered over 1.3M masks, 2.5M gloves, and 142k pounds of medical aid.
Join me in supporting the brave healthcare workers who are fighting for all of us.
