Do you have an aging loved one? Or do you know the elderly person that lives in your neighborhood? They are kind, sweet and a bit forgetful? I know many in our senior community just like this and I would like to share with you one of their stories.
Hazel, by all accounts, was fun-loving and vibrant and always had a great story to tell. A widow with no children of her own, Hazel loved to shower the neighborhood children with praise and candy. Hazel had struggled with memory problems in the past and with no family to take care of her moved into a nursing facility for safety reasons. Unfortunately, Hazel’s problems did not get any better. She contracted Covid-19 and was taken to the hospital. Unable to speak for herself and to let her decisions be known, the hospital was forced to continue life-saving treatment no matter the financial or physical costs.
Luckily, we were alerted to Hazel’s condition and were able to step in as Hazel’s guardian. From there we were able to transfer Hazel out of the ICU and make Hazel’s last days comfortable and allow her the dignity we all deserve.
Hazel’s story is just one of many stories happening everyday within our senior community here in Floyd County; that’s the need and the reason for VACA, Inc. We provide training to family members who would like to become guardians of their loved ones and supply volunteers for companionship and guardianship services for anyone that does not have family that is willing or able to help in this capacity. We will assist to facilitate and authorize health care, social welfare, and residential placement services of the individual. This includes investigating and gathering information regarding health, welfare, and financial circumstances of the person as directed by our courts.
The aging population is continuing to grow, while the amount of children and young people is declining. This is going to lead to many older people without younger family members to care for them in their time of need. One day yourself or your loved one may find themselves in this situation.
Without your help, many other seniors will not have these vital resources. VACA, Inc. is seeking donations from the community to provide support services for the elderly communityand their families. We greatly appreciate your donation to not only assist us to support the operations of VACA Inc. but also help us help educate the young and old in the community about guardianship services and how they can better plan for the future before it may be too late.
Because we are a registered 501(c)3 organization, your donation is completely tax deductible. Please keep this for your tax records to claim your deduction. Again, we thank you for your support in helping to make our community a better place for everyone.
