In 1953, 16 MFDA members came together to provide an avenue for enhancing the future of Mortuary Science Education in Michigan. The next year, the Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation (MMSF) was incorporated with the objectives of advancing, encouraging, promoting, and improving Mortuary Science. Today, the Foundation continues its work through annual Mortuary Science Education Scholarships and Program Grants.
The MMSF is at a critical juncture in 2018, creating change and inviting more participation in the future of Mortuary Science Education. The Foundation Board of Trustees has improved investment policies to be more proactive and responsible in managing resources to maximize the benefit to future Mortuary Science Education opportunities. The Foundation has also revised and adopted a new set of By-Laws, bringing the Foundation in line with current State and Federal laws and IRS standards.
With these improvements in mind, we would like to challenge, encourage and invite each member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association to join the Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation. The MMSF is a separate entity from the MFDA with separate board, members, trustees, and meetings. With your involvement, we can attain the goal of advancing, promoting, and improving Mortuary Science Education for the mutual benefit of all who choose this profession. Please consider becoming a member of the MMSF with an annual contribution of $100. If you do not wish to become a member of MMSF, please consider a donation of $25 for the advancement of Mortuary Science Education.
We would also like to encourage member firms to consider a separate annual donation of $250 to the Foundation. This donation will be recognized during the Honors Ceremony at the MFDA Annual Convention and in the MFDA Journal. Every donation counts, whether $25 or $250 for the future of Mortuary Science Education.
The Michigan Mortuary Science Foundation provides an important benefit to the future of our Profession. We hope each of you will accept this challenge to “Project 250”. Please make your tax deductable donation. Every member matters and every dollar counts!
