I'm running this marathon in memory of my hero, my grandfather, Chubby. Because of pancreatic cancer, he never got to see me run a marathon. He held the record for the 100 meter dash in his grammar school days, and while I favor endurance running and not sprinting, I channel his energy, determination, and pride to carry through to the finish.
In December 2018, my family could only pray and watch as our hero suffered through the final days of his battle with pancreatic cancer. Witnessing the battle is something I can't forget, but the way Chubby always lent a hand to help others is a legacy that runs even deeper. I'm running so other families might not have to watch their heroes lose this battle.
Pancreatic cancer will become the #2 killer of all major cancers in the USA by 2020. We need your help to fund more research and help more families fighting.
