What's my why? For my mom, and for me.
I'm Christin. I assume most people visiting my page already know that though. I love to run. I have amazing friends, an amazing boyfriend, and a beautiful niece that gives me hope.
In June of 2016, I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer. My best friend. My person. Someone who is irreplaceable to me. Someone I planned to live my life with, every step of the way. The happy and sad. For birthdays, Christmas, my wedding, even the birth of my future child. The dreams and possibilities were endless.
Welcome to my page. This is Round 4 of me running and fundraising with Project Purple. In the past, I've run a 10-miler, half marathon, and a marathon on their team. I've enjoyed and been proud of every step.
What's Project Purple? They are an impact-driven organization with a vision of a world without pancreatic cancer. Their mission is to find a cure for pancreatic cancer and improve the lives of patients through support, hope, and compassion.
56,000 people are expected to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, and about 45,000 people will lose their lives to it. The 5 year survival rate for this disease is just 9%, and that is unacceptable.
For my mom, early detection could have potentially saved her life. But like most people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, it was late stage. She fought hard, and surpassed what doctors expected, but in the end, the cancer was just too aggressive and there was nothing more we could do.
I'm continuing to raise money with Project Purple for: early detection, a survival rate that I can't show on my 2 hands, and to help those patients and their familes fighting for their lives.
I love my mom. I miss her with everything in me. Thank you for reading. Thank you for your donations.
