David Kuehnl, my grandpa ( known to us as "Papa"), was one of the most amazing and inspirational people I have ever known. He was generous; willing to help and support his family members in any way possible. He was honorable; always showing fairness and honesty in his work and at home. He was strong; always working, whether it was waking up at 4a.m. to drive to his office, taking care of horses that he and my grandma own, or fixing things up around their home and property. He was supportive, encouraging, and everything you could ever want in a grandpa. In late 2018, we were all shocked to learn his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Our family pulled together, Papa remained strong and optimistic, but in April of 2019, he lost his brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
I will be running "Grandma's Marathon" in Duluth, Minnesota with a charity group, named Project Purple, in 2020. Project Purple's mission is to raise awareness and funds to defeat pancreatic cancer. Project Purple is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that has provided over 2$ million in grants to support the research being done by doctors in top pancreatic cancer facilities in the United States. It is their hope, and mine, that by raising these funds there will be further developments in early detection testing for pancreatic cancer. 300$ thousand in charity funds have also been given to patients living with pancreatic cancer to aid with their medical and pharmaceutical needs.
I will be raising funds to aid Project Purple in their mission to defeat pancreatic cancer. This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart, and I will be collecting donations in memory of my Papa. If you choose to donate, you can do so here, through this GoFundMe page or by sending checks or cash directly to myself or the Project Purple headquarters. Please reach out if you have any questions. I am so grateful for your support! Thank you!
