The Malalo Sport Foundation (MSF) is an initiative in Zambia that runs Kenani, a community school for grades 1-7 in a low-income area of Zambia. With volunteer teachers and funds from donors, the foundation holds classes for students, organizes sporting tournaments for children, and hosts events to promote awareness of HIV/AIDS. However, with the lockdown and current climate, many of the students’ guardians are struggling to feed their families, and the organization needs funds to help their students and their families make ends meet.
Every donation makes a difference! A family of six needs $5 of food per day. Many families in this region survive on < $1 USD per day, and 68% of the region lives below the poverty line. By providing schooling, food support, and education on HIV/AIDS, the MSF is making a large difference in the area. The region has limited secondary school education (a 23% enrollment rate), a high child mortality rate (182 out of every 1,000 children do not survive childhood), and a high HIV rate (17% of 15-49 year olds). Therefore, residents in the region are depending on the help the MSF provides.
