Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. These 4 words are a death sentence for the children that have it. There has been a lot of promising research and a lot of funds donated and granted to continue research to treat this deadly childhood disease. I have been fortunate enough to have known a child that fought this cancer, and because of her battle my daughter asked me to get involved. Melana Matson and Maria McNamara were both vibrant 9 year old girls when they lost their lives to this disease. Please, visit http://prayersfrommaria.org to learn more.
Melana's family started a 5k as a fundraiser for research for childhood cancer, and that little event in Garrettsville, Ohio, launched a whole new part of me. I don't always run for me. Yes I enjoy it and it helps keep me healthy, but I run as a way to raise awareness and money for research so that hopefully, one day, no parent or child will ever have to fear the words Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. My struggles in a long run like a marathon are nothing more than symbolic of the struggles that these kids must face!
Please help these kids and families by donating today. Every little bit counts. Let's spread the word to all your friends and family as well. Let's try to make childhood cancer a disease of the past! As a way to honor these kids who have passed away at such precious young ages, I will be running the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon on May 19, 2019. Your donation and support would mean a lot more to me than words can say!
