This year I'm participating in my first lifting competition through Pull for Pride and raising money for an organization whose mission I hold dear to my heart, Trans Lifeline. As a queer mental health therapist it's an honor to be able to support a trans-led organization whose vision is to end trans suicide and improve overall quality of life for trans people. By donating you are helping Trans Lifeline continue to offer their nationwide peer support crisis hotline (run by and for trans people) and microgrants for trans people to get their legal name change and updated I.D.s that affirm their gender.
Though the goal of this campaign is to support Trans Lifeline, you will also be supporting my journey to empowerment. Growing up in culture full of homophobia and body shame often makes me feel the need to take up the least amount of space possible, in all ways. Participating in Pull for Pride is a big step in me building confidence, taking up space and feeling empowered.
