In March of 2014 my father Michael was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. This past year he turned 70, and despite increasing limitations and struggles he is hanging in there like the stubborn Irishman he is. I wanted to honor him this year like I was able to do for my mother last year, her charity wiffleball game to raise money for the American Cancer Society having been far more successful than I could’ve ever dreamed. Unfortunately, as we are in the midst of a pandemic getting together for another charity event isn’t in the cards this year. So what can we do? Then it hit me, after months of sheltering at home and avoiding all unnecessary ventures out of my apartment I’ve let myself go a bit. So why not combine two things that will be a positive this year, getting in better shape and raising money for charity. I am therefore proud to announce the Pounds For Parkinson’s Research initiative. Starting today, for every pound I lose I will be donating $10.00 to the Michael J Fox Foundation. This will conclude with a final weigh in on Christmas Eve 2020 and the matching donation for the pounds I was able to lose. If you’d like to join the squad and make this pledge for yourself, I’d be happy to have you aboard. If you’d rather just make a donation to the cause, that would be wonderful too. So come on, let’s burn some fat and raise some money for a good cause!
