Race, Walk, Run, Stroll- wherever and however you'd like to participate. Wear your derby shirts and post photos on social media! We want to see your smiling faces as we raise funds to support our drivers and honor one of PJ's greats, Bill Hockenberry.
It goes without saying that we'd all rather be racing derby on June 14th, but sadly we can't this year. That said, we'd still like to invite our derby family - current drivers, past drivers, derby families and the greater community - to rally together in a virtual 5K - to support our scholarship fund and honor a great man.
This event is especially important because it will be held in loving memory of Bill Hockenberry, a beloved member of our derby family who resurrected the derby in Port Jervis over 20 years ago.
It was Bill that sparked the idea of bringing back soap box derby racing to Port Jervis in 1999, history was made....AGAIN! Since then, thousands have raced in our derby and because of his vision, Port Jervis remains THE LARGEST LOCAL DERBY IN THE WORLD - bringing together thousands of race fans on derby day as we create lasting memories for the kids of our community.
Each year, our derby awards scholarships to former racers who have proven themselves committed to their communities through the Elizabeth Ashley "Boo" Bisland Memorial Scholarship Fund. This year, we will announce our scholarship recipients on what was supposed to be our 21st annual derby....Sunday, June 14th.
We look forward to celebrating with this year's recipients and all who "join" us in our virtual 5K!
