Hi friends, Megan Addeo here.
I couldn’t be more excited to bring a dream of mine to reality and run in the Boston Marathon for the Pedro Martinez Foundation on April 20, 2020.
I run to clear my head and my heart, so that I can carry myself through my day-to-day with poise, intention, empathy, and contribute to every task and every interaction as best I can. Running has allowed me to tune into my most authentic self and has inspired me to pursue some of my most lofty dreams. (I signed up for this dang marathon after returning from a long run…ha!)
I’m officially running to support others in achieving the same. I’m running with a team of people to support children and families who face adversity and live in vulnerable communities; The Pedro Martinez Foundation, founded by the Red Sox legend Pedro Martinez himself, empowers children and families in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Boston, Miami, and more. The Foundation helps individuals discover their sense of self and potential by providing meals, clean water, education, scholarships, job training skills and day care so that they can seek brighter futures.
I’ve set the goal of raising $10,000 in support of the Foundation and empowering youth and families living in adverse circumstances. I’d be honored if you'd contribute to this great cause.
Every contribution makes a difference, even if it's in the form of words of encouragement along the way, joining me for a run (or part of one!) or sharing running fuel recs!
I'll keep you updated as we go. Wish me luck!
About the Pedro Martinez Foundation
Growing up with little opportunity in the Dominican Republic, Pedro’s personal experience, paired with his generous heart inspired the launch of the Pedro Martinez Foundation in his hometown in the Dominican Republic in 2007. Today the Pedro Martinez Foundation has served hundreds of thousands of children and families in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Boston, Miami, and more.
Over the years Pedro, and his wife Carolina, have developed many programs that offer life giving support, including food and nutrition, education, clothing, medical and dental treatments, sports, childcare, job training, home construction and remodeling, scholarships, and much more. The Foundation’s philosophy is that it “takes a village” to raise a child. Each of these programs is a piece of the puzzle that, when all fit together, provides holistic care for many children and families living in poverty.
Our mission is to improve the lives of at-risk youth and their families through education, sports, arts, healing, partnership, entrepreneurship, and nutrition.
We are ecstatic about our third year with a team running to represent our Foundation, and all the families we provide support to! Join us as we strive to give children and families a better future in the United States and Latin America. Visit https://pedromartinezfoundation.com/ for more information.
