On August 3 and 4th the Pan-Mass Challenge, a 2-day bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown (194 miles), is taking place in order to raise money for the Jimmy Fund/ Dana Farber.
I can't believe that this is my 16th year doing the PMC. This is also my 16 year anniversary of being cancer free. It feels like yesterday and at the same time, a lifetime ago. I have been able to live and enjoy the best time of my life since beating cancer. I want to say thank you to all my friends and family for all the support that was given to me when I was sick, and now I want to do my part to give back to those to who are fighting the fight now.
Every family in one way or another has been or will be touched by cancer. As a Dad, I want to make sure that treatments are more successful and that they are less painful not only for my boys but for everyone's friends and family. I realize there are many others out there who need or will need all that the Dana Farber has to fight this disease. Dana Farber not only gives amazing care to patients but they are leading the way in cancer research. So even if know someone who is being treated at a different hospital, Dana Farber is still an incredibly important part of their treatment.
Every summer when I am out on training ride I think about all the different people that I know that have been for forced to face this horrible disease. Over the years it surprises me how many people have been able to win the fight. I truly believe that it is due to all of the research that Dana Farber does every day. The research is making a difference, we need to make sure that Dana Farber and the Jimmy fund can continue doing amazing work and creating new successful treatments. We can all be part of making a difference.
As we bike 192 miles across Massachusetts, I ask for your support in reaching my pledged goal, so that Dana Farber can continue to this do this life saving research. Dana Farber is an amazing place, we are so lucky to have it here in Boston as well as the satellite treatment centers thought out the communities.
I am very proud to tell you that 100% of your donations go directly to the Jimmy fund. We (the PMC) raise over 50% of all of the money for the Jimmy fund each year. This is the largest and most successful fundraiser in the country. Together we can help to continue the research and programs for these kids and families with your support.
If you would like to honor someone special, please send me their name so I can add it to the back of my shirt during my PMC ride. Please send me their name(s) so I will have time to put it all together. In the online donation there is a spot where you can share the name you would like to honor.
Unfortunately, cancer hit my family and friends again this year with a direct shot. This year, cancer took a family member in her prime. She lost the battle this spring leaving her husband and 2 children behind. Within weeks of her passing, a childhood friend passed as well. He had a much longer fight. He was able to be an incredible inspiration as he shared his story. I would read his bog and was amazed with each post. One really nice thing about social media is that we still get to see their stories. We get to see the new post that people are sharing and the memories that they continue to share. It make you feel like they are still with you. Sadly, In the past 45 days, two of my friends have been diagnosed with cancer. As they start their journey to fight this disease I know that the research keeps getting better every year. I am 100% sure that with your support we can make a difference together. I will continue to us to do the training, when it is fun and when it is painful. In the good weather and when it’s hot. In dry weather and in the rain. But I need your help with the donations, no donation is too large or too small. They all come together to make a huge difference together!
We are closer by the mile but we need your help to reach our goal!
