Each year in the United States, more than 23,000 young adults leave the foster care system with no family they can count on. These young people face grim outcomes, including high rates of homelessness, unemployment, early parenting and lack of education. The Run for Plummer team is running the 2020 Boston Marathon because we believe it doesn’t have to be that way.
Founded in 1855 on the North Shore of Massachusetts, Plummer Youth Promise is a non-profit organization serving young people who are in or at risk of entering the foster care or juvenile justice systems. Plummer offers direct care through its residential and community-based programs. Plummer’s innovative approach has gained national attention and has become a model for similar social services agencies. As such, Plummer shares best practices with partners through training and consultation. The Plummer Promise is to work to ensure every youth in its care has someone to call family – someone unconditionally committed to nurture, protect and guide them to successful adulthood.
