Please support our maker space during COVID-19
Maker Nexus' shop doors were closed to the public on March 17, 2020, but our staff, along with our community of 500+ volunteer makers, have been working tirelessly to make and donate personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers fighting COVID-19. To date we have donated over 32,000 face shields and 4,000+ face masks!
Thankfully, we have received generous donations to support PPE production, but our normal main source of revenue—membership dues—is declining, and that’s what normally pays the bills, from rent and utilities to salaries and insurance and more. Memberships are beginning to decline because many of our members are out of work, and recruiting new members is difficult because no one can use the maker space. Even when we’re allowed to reopen, we’ll be forced to limit the number of people allowed in our facility and to reduce class sizes, which will lead to even more lost revenue.
We kindly ask for your support for our maker space and our dedicated employees during the COVID-19 crisis. Your gift will help keep our maker space here for the community, in good times and in bad. When we can reopen, it will help us quickly resume our nonprofit mission of providing STEAM education and lowering the barriers to access to equipment and learning for people of all ages to create, make and invent; and it will ensure that our maker community’s expertise, equipment, and energy are available in the next local or national crisis to help make what the community needs.
