Can you believe I'm running for a cause??? Not being a fan of running at ANY time in my life (I much prefer bicycles, but that's not an option here...) I've decided to give these cranky knees a run for their money, to fundraise for my favorite local education charity. I LOVE Plazas Community Bilingual Education! Gabi has had the good fortune to attend immersion Spanish preschool and is now in a bilingual TK-8 public school. His mind just keeps growing, his world keeps growing, his values are rooting deep, and he's loving it! I want to see kids coming together from diverse social and economic backgrounds, to learn together in each other's languages, to learn from each other's cultures, making a broader impact in our community and our world.
So I joined together with a handful of other parents and community members and we established this scholarship fund. We gave out scholarships to three families in our first giving cycle, and are raising more to grow, grow, grow.
Like they taught us: think globally, act locally.
My Zapatismo, my Madison, WI public school education, my Buddhist inspiration, my service in the Peace Corps (Honduras, '96 woohoo!) my professional interpreter self and my mother-self all have led me here to walk, and run, this path.
Chip in, and help me reach farther than I had imagined!
