The Plattsburgh Memorial Chapel was dedicated in 1933 in memory of those stationed in Plattsburgh who gave their lives in World War I. After sitting empty for 8 years after Plattsburgh Air Force Base closed in 1995, the Chapel reopened as a non-profit 501 (3) (c) corporation governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
This quaint little chapel sits at the tip of the Old Base Oval and has watched over generations of soldiers readying for war, civilians marching for peace, organizers raising awareness for community causes and throngs of local kids playing soccer.
Its old bricks, stately oak doors and stained glass windows not only hold the remembrances of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in World War I but also the memories of young couples embarking on a new life ; celebrations of newborns coming into the world; farewells to old friends and family as well as happy times through concerts, plays and artistic events.
Now the Chapel needs your help...repairs to the stained glass windows, a little love to the exterior trim, safety upgrades to the interior and heat in the cold months ahead are desperately needed.
