In 1998, at the age of seven (7) Jordan Morgan entered and placed third in the Boy Scouts of America, Pack 345 Redford, MI Pinewood Derby competition. When asked if this sparked his initial interest in engineering, he reflects, “At that age I was just so excited by the math and science behind it. I specifically remember being captivated by the ideal placement of the weights on the body of the car to maximize the car's speed. I even obsessed about the shape of the car to achieve perfect aerodynamics."
Like most children, Jordan was naturally curious about the “how and why of things” taking place around him. Despite a period of challenging circumstances in his childhood, including homelessness at one point, his curiosity was nurtured and supported by his mother and adoptive father. He persevered, thrived and eventually successfully attained a B.S.E. in industrial operations engineering and a M.Eng. in Manufacturing while also serving as the captain of the University of Michigan basketball team from 2009-2014.
Sensitive to and recognizing that too often children experience life challenges beyond their control, Jordan founded the Jordan Morgan Foundation (JMF) in 2015. JMF is specifically focused on holistic youth and family development for residents of the city of Detroit. JMF’s flagship program, Launch! STEM, a summer intensive series, provides hands-on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning and engagement experiences for Detroit children. Supporting participants socio-emotional development is a key element of the program.
From its very first year, demand for Launch! STEM has exceeded capacity – creating a waiting list. In preparation for the 2019 program year, prospective donors/supporters are invited to support further expansion of the program.
JMF has as a goal exposing 500 Detroit children to Launch! STEM over the next year. As a program participant, each child obtains materials and supplies, attends engineering intensive classes/labs and field trips to enhance their overall experience. A tax-deductible donation of $250 supports the entire 6-week long experience for each program participant.
You are invited to be a Launch! STEM donor, supporting JMF in its stated goal to expand program exposure to children in Detroit and secure $25,000 in donations by December 31, 2018. Several donation options are available.
