Hi, we are Kim and Ken Mathews and we love Apple Blossom. We started attending events when we first moved here from Northern Virginia 15 years ago. We had no idea how much Apple Blossom would be part of our lives and how much we would look forward to it every year. So much so that we would buy a Pink Convertible Beetle, start a craft business named after the car, and make the Bloomin Wine Fest our first event.
The Pink Buggy has driven in both the Firemen’s and the Grand Parade for the last 3 years and before that Ken drove his G6 red convertible in both Parades. In 2018 we drove both cars in the Parades. We have driven a couple of different folks on the back of our cars but the one that we have driven most often is Chris Collins and his wife Thérèse. Their son Noah has joined us some times and our granddaughter joined us one year. It always amazes us how many people are on the parade route and their enthusiasm. Even when the weather is not so good they are all out there cheering on the bands, the cars, the celebrities and everyone else that participates. It’s only about a mile and a half route and it takes about an hour and a half to go around but it’s a fabulous ride thru a town that loves their Apple Blossom.
We as a family including our daughter Jordan Mitchell have come to so look forward to this time of year. Pink Buggy Designs sells handcrafted items at the Souvenir store, The Blooming Wine Festival and thru our Facebook page. Every year I design a commemorative wine glass with the date for the folks that love to collect their Apple Blossom memories. Of course this year was no exception but we had to stop creating once the Festival events were cancelled. We decided to embrace the cancellation and create a glass that represented how we all felt about 2020. When I placed the Stemless glass with the saying “The One That Never Happened” I had no idea how many I would sell. The Apple Blossom fans came thru and purchased quite a few glasses from us and we plan to pay that forward with a donation to Apple Blossom Festival as soon as every one is able to pick up for their glass.
We look forward to an awesome 2021 Apple Blossom Festival next year or as my little neighbor calls it Awesome Blossom.
Please consider donating to keep this Festival alive and thriving. We are all in this together, let’s show the world what a great place WINCHESTER VA is and how much we love THE BLOOM.
