My name is Elizabeth Anthonys and I will be running the Boston Marathon on April 15th 2019 alongside my dear friend Glen Harrington. This will be my very first Marathon ever and I am very excited and appreciative to be apart of this experience.
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself and why I am running for Pine Street Inn. I recently opened a fitness studio right in the heart of Back Bay. Each week I park my car in a garage that is about 4 blocks from my studio. When I have to walk it is usually dark and very cold this time of the year. I have been deeply saddened and moved by the amount of homeless people sleeping on the ground or a park bench.
On Thanksgiving, I was invited to volunteer to help serve a holiday meal to the guests at Pine Street Inn. The staff members who helped to organize the lunch were so friendly and warm; they really helped me to feel comfortable and welcome. I was put to work on the serving station. One by one all the guests started to arrive. In that very moment, I was overwhelmed with joy not only to be there but also to feel like I was a making a difference. Everyone seemed sincerely grateful that we were there to help.
Pine Street Inn provides a comprehensive range of services, including job training and placement. It also is an emergency shelter for nearly 2,000 people each day. The Inn also offers permanent supportive housing, which I am particularly impressed with because it gives these men and women a chance to start over with there lives.
I am running this race for Pine Street because I believe everyone deserves a second chance to start over. Anyone can be homeless -- it really can happen to anybody. My goal to raise $20,000 dollars! I think I can do this because of people like you.
I would like to thank all of my friends and family, especially all of my clients who support me at my studio. I am very humbled by this experience (training has not been easy), and I am taking each day as it comes to me. I wake up feeling thankful. Please help me reach my goal!!
