About the Class:
Traditional Cancer treatments like surgery and radiation lead to dried out tissues, less mobility and a general sense of stuckness in our ribcage and diaphragm. In addition, surviving any trauma has lasting emotional impacts on our bodies. I think it's fair to say that in 2020 we are all trauma survivors. Fear is a contracted state, we're armored, holding, taking smaller breathes, staying small. Sometimes our experiences are so uncomfortable the safest thing to do is go numb or dissociate completely so we are left feeling separate from our bodies. This class will lead to more awareness of what exactly your ribs are doing and feeling. Then we will move in ways to stretch, strengthen, mobilize and make space in a loving way:). No Pilates experience required.
About Nicole Pieratt:
Nicole is a breast cancer survivor who has been teaching Pilates for 8 years. After working one on one with her Pilates clients for years as well as exploring her own residual cancer feelings and symptoms, Nicole realized that more than just a person's physical state was affecting their movement. It turns out our emotional state affects our bodies. Just as much as our physical aches and pains are on our minds, our emotional stressors are in all of our tissues. Nicole now brings this knowledge and her somatic training through SPRe (Somatic Personal Resonance) Bodywork into her movement sessions with clients one on one or in group class. She also offers one on one Zoom SPRe sessions for clients looking to go deeper into understanding the information their bodies hold.
