Persak & Wurmfeld (P&W) is competing once again in the NY Architect's Regatta to show our love for sailing and in support of our non-profit Brooklyn Boatworks (BKBW).
P&W is the only full-service naval architecture firm headquartered in Brooklyn, NY. The firm strives to combine the art of design, engineering and cutting-edge technology to revolutionize design, construction, modification and management of large complicated projects.
Principals Carl Persak and Jeremy Wurmfeld founded Brooklyn Boatworks in 2005 to give back to their community. Working with New York City youth, the program provides experiential learning and leadership through boatbuilding and sailing while promoting the values of makership, perseverance, and cooperation.
Brooklyn Boatworks aims to promote excellence by creating learning environments grounded in respect, support and dignity for all students.
Each group of middle school students begins with four sheets of marine grade plywood, a set of plans, and basic hand tools. Students work together throughout the school year to build their own Optimist pram. At the end of the school year each class launches and sails its boat in the New York City harbor in an unforgettable celebration of accomplishment.
