Many women and young girls fear having their period every month simply because they have no affordable access to hygiene supplies such as pads and tampons. This leads to girls staying home from school and women staying home from work and/or not taking advantage of opportunities that they woud be more willing to pursue if they didn't have to worry so much about their period.
Former Chief of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for UNICEF, Sanjay Wijesekera states "Meeting the hygiene needs of all adolescent girls is a fundamental issue of human rights, dignity, and public health", and he couldn't be more right. Period.
Period Poverty and the lack of access to basic supplies is an issue in many of the urban and rural communities Mission Without Borders works in across Eastern Europe.
Every month we visit families registered in our programs to provide urgent supplies like food, household items and some basic hygiene supplies. Unfortunately, we can't always guarantee feminine hygiene products are in those care packages due to the cost as we often have to prioritize food items, but we want to change that.
Your donation today will help us purchase and deliver feminine hygiene supplies to girls and women in need that we visit.
Mission Without Borders Canada is actively looking for partner suppliers to lower costs and increase availability of pads and tampons for families that must choose between simple supplies and food for their children.
If this is a cause that speaks to you, please consider a donation today and send us a note with your email address so we can keep you updated on the progress of this project. Help us give the girls and women we serve in Eastern Europe the respect and help they need and hep put an end to Period Poverty. Period.
Mission Without Borders Canada is using GoFundMe's charity tools to help keep costs low and hopefully reach more people to have a larger impact.
