WILL YOU HELP PERCY?
Partner with the National Institute of Canine Service and Training (NICST) to serve those who serve us. We are asking our community to help NICST raise $25,000 to create a life-empowering partnership between Percy (service dog in-training) and a dedicated First Responder.
NICST's First Response K9 program is for those who have dedicated their lives to serving us in crisis and emergency. Your support will help facilitate a life-empowering partnership to an individual working on the front lines.
The training of First Response K9s (and all NICST dogs) is based on the industry-leading scientific standards for which we’ve been known for over 15 years.
Percy will be trained to reliably and accurately perform tasks through various phases of training. Percy will learn core tasks as well as tasks specific to the needs of the First Responder. Core tasks include how the dog responds to comfort their human (like alerting to an oncoming panic attack/anxiety applying, deep pressure therapy or cuddling upon cue) and how the dog helps their human navigate crowds (like controlling spacing and interactions in public).
Percy will also be trained for a wide range of additional skills, like getting help, sweeping a room, or finding an exit. NICST works closely with clients to determine how our dogs can respond to the needs of their daily life and work.
Percy will have to pass each phase with at least 80% accuracy and achieve a statistical confidence interval as high as 99.73% in performance. At this standard of performance, we can ensure that Percy will strengthen the mental health and overall wellbeing of the First Responder he is partnered with.
By supporting Percy through our First Response K-9 program you will help NICST create life-saving partnership. Your contributions will directly impact the training and success of Percy’s placement with a First Responder - allowing us to place him FREE of charge with a client in need of his life-saving support.
