It feels good to give...so here's an unreleased cover of Feeling Good by Nina Simone that I'm sending just to the special people who support this cause!
Nearly of people with disabilities are actively seeking jobs...
So, why are only of them employed?
People with disabilities deserve equal rights and opportunities just like everyone else — but the scales are horribly imbalanced. It's incredibly difficult for a person with a disability to get a job, even when they are completely qualified. Discrimination against people with disabilities is alive and well in our county, and it's up to us to create an environment where this injustice is not tolerated.
I'm going to thank you in advance for helping me meet my $1,000 goal to benefit People With Disabilities Succeeding Marin (PDS Marin), a FANTASTIC nonprofit based locally in San Anselmo. PDS Marin allows for people with disabilities to be integrated into our community through providing job opportunities at businesses in our surrounding area. Creating these types of opportunities is immensely important --did you know that 8/10 people with these types of disabilities don't have paying jobs?
My name is Caroline, and I'm a high school senior from San Anselmo. I grew up around people with disabilities, and I volunteer every summer as an overnight, 24/7 care counselor at Camp Jabberwocky, a residential summer camp for people with disabilities on Martha's Vineyard. So, when I got assigned a project in my American Government class this year, to find a real-life problem, research it, and then actually do something about the issue, I immediately knew that I wanted to do something to create awareness and action surrounding disability rights and opportunity. Together, I hope we can make a difference on this inequality.
Donate to PDS Marin and show your commitment to ensuring that Marin truly be a place of diversity, inclusion, and possibility for all.
