People Helping People (PHP) in Hernando County is a 501(c)(3) local, non-profit interfaith community serving those in need. PHP was established in 2009 to provide food and basic necessities to those who are impoverished or disadvantaged. It is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to making a difference in the fight against hunger in Hernando County. PHP operates four separate food programs:
1. Weekend Blessings is PHP’s children’s program and is administered in cooperation with the Hernando County School District, Hernando County Head Start, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hernando County. This program provides weekend nourishment to approximately 650 Hernando County students who without this assistance would not have sufficient food during the weekend when away from school.
2. Sunday Blessings provides a Sunday dinner to anyone in need, served with dignity and respect. At the rented meal site, PHP provides resource connections for medical care, shelter, transportation, and financial assistance.
3. Senior Blessings provides elderly citizens living in subsidized housing in South Brooksville with groceries each month through a partnership with the Greater Love Outreach Ministries.
4. Neighborhood Blessings provides nourishing, ready-to-eat food to the homeless in our county. These are homeless individuals and families living in their cars, in the woods, or in someone’s garage throughout the county.
