EVENT DATE: OCT 21, 2018 The US Surgeon General reported that more Americans suffer from addiction than from all the cancers combined.
Join us for the fourth year as we climb the Orrington Plaza's 20 stories to confront this health crisis and raise treatment scholarships for teens and adults with addiction!
The Climb
Orrington Plaza 1603 Orrington Ave Evanston, IL 60201 (corner of Orrington & Davis)
Registration opens at 8:00 AM. Participants will begin to climb at 9:00 AM Climbers of all abilities, ages 5 and above, are encouraged to participate!
Climb the 20 stories to the top at your own pace. For those in need of a greater challenge, climb the building 2,3,4 or even 5 times!
The first group of participants will begin the climb at 9 AM. This is for climbers looking to time themselves and run competitively. At 9:15 we will begin releasing teams and at 9:30 we will begin releasing individuals. Climbers will be dispersed in groups of 5 and released in waves.
Plan to arrive a little earlier than you hope to climb to register and pick up your t-shirt and bib number. We will provide all climbers with plenty of water-- stations will be available every 5 floors, and snacks will be provided at the end of your climb. Stick around for bagels, coffee and the drawing of our raffle!
Parking & Transportation
Sunday parking in Evanston is free. Street parking and parking garages are available; the Sherman Plaza Self Park is steps away from Orrington Plaza. Orrington Plaza can be reached easily via the Purple line and Metra's Union Pacific North line toward Kenosha off the Davis St. stops.
Why Climb?
Addiction is one of the nation's greatest health issues. For those struggling, there are many barriers. Stigma and shame lead people to suffer in silence, lack of income or insurance leaves many feeling that accessing treatment is not an option. There are 23.5 million people in the U.S. struggling with addiction, yet only 11% will actually receive treatment. Your participation does more than provide funds. It demonstrates support and advocacy for those living in long-term recovery-- a gesture that will provide strength and hope. The funds you raise will save lives-- providing teens and adults access to the treatment they so desperately need. We know that addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is attainable. With your help we're able to provide people with new beginnings and a renewed opportunity to live their lives to the fullest.
