Children afflicted with neuromuscular diseases suffer greatly as their quality of life declines rapidly by age 5-7. They are wheelchair bound early in life and death comes early as well. These are devastating diseases and seriously affect families and caregivers who suffer along with the sick child. AMC is now (11/24/17) in discussions with a leading national laboratory based in the USA to set up a research collaboration for one such childhood neuromuscular disease (there are many!). This research collaboration will lead a drug discovery program to find safe and effective targeted medicine as treatment for these sick kids. The goal of these therapies would be to improve the quality of life for these children, and also give them much needed mobility. This fundraiser is to help AMC get a jump start in preparation to launch this project in Q1 2018. The goal of this fundraising drive is $250K which will serve as seed funds to launch and support the collaborative research efforts for 6-8 months toward certain milestones for the program. Launching this program would also allow us to write for research grants from disease foundations and philanthropists. AMC has received generous in-kind support from a research company based in India to help this project with essential laboratory science research needs. We couldn't have embarked on this project discussions without their help. (We will name them here soon!) Your generous financial support would position AMC to successfully launch this project. You can help us help children who need good medicines. We will also frequently update you with progress we make with fundraising and collaboration agreement. We commit to you that more than 85% of your donation here in this crowdfunding goal will go directly to support the research efforts (i.e., 15% or less will be for overheads and fundraising expenses). Stay tuned: Once AMC and our collaborator decided on a timeline to make public announcement of this collaboration, we will update you here about the specific disease and name of the collaborator. Your understanding is much appreciated. Thank you from TEAM AMC #Meds4Kids
