The CAF PBY-6A N7179Y is undergoing a multi year restoration after sustaining significant damage in a wind storm. After a move to a new hanger, the Lake Superior Squadron is back at work combining the best of two PBY-6A's into one airworthy seaplane.
The PBY Catalina is an unsung hero from World War II. Catalina's played an incredibly important role in the war, particularly in the Pacific, where they located and tracked the Japanese fleet, perfomed sea rescue of aircrew, and hunted the enemy’s supply ships at night.
In addition to ongoing work on the fuselage and wing, we’re currently in the process of doing a minor rebuild of our two primary R-1830 engines.
This years goal is to raise $10,000 so we can complete the rebuilds of these engines. This will help us acheive our winter goal to complete these overhauls and have two solid engines ready for our plane before we remount the wing.
