The closure of the ASPCA'S spay/neuter clinic has severely impacted all NYC rescuers.
Standard vetting for spay/neuter and vaccines was free at the ASPCA and now $100-$125 per cat at select vets who are still willing to do spay/neuter surgeries. For adoptables, getting a Snap test, Revolution, and microchip with the surgery used to cost $45/cat at the ASPCA but costs nearly $200/cat at private vets.
I have been taking on average 8 cats per week, sometimes up to 14, to multiple vets to be spayed/neutered. Each week the vetting costs are $600-$1200. This is just for standard vetting besides the spay/neuter. Any major medical is taken to AVG or AMC as an emergency drop off.
I have been rescuing several friendly cats per week, most who need major medical. Some examples are Monkey ($2500), Gusto ($1500), Basil ($700) and currently hospitalized are Harold, Cash, and Gemma.
I have dentals planned for 3-4 cats and am estimating costs of $800-$1000 for each cat.
I am easily spending $2000-$5000 each week for spay/neuters and vital treatment. The amounts would be less if the low cost spay/neuter service was offered. Your help is greatly appreciated. I will continue to save cats in every way possible: through trap-neuter-return of entire feral colonies, and full vetting, treatment, and fostering of friendly rescues while looking to adopt them out to perfect forever homes.
