This is our story:
In 2014, we uprooted our family and came to Oaxaca with the goal to become a bilingual family though we knew that our timeline here depended on the educational options available. Before coming to Oaxaca, I checked out a Montessori school and after one visit I knew that Montessori was the best fit for our family's values and the best educational style to help the next generation grow into strong, independent individuals with a deeper understanding of community. I was dead set on my girls attending a Montessori school.
But four years ago, when we moved to Oaxaca—that wasn't an option.
We feared that once it was time for Indigo to attend Kindergarten we would have to return to the U.S. And after our first year here, we were nervous. We felt that we could stretch it another year before we had to make the decision to stay or go back
And that's when I found Paz.
I couldn't believe it. I was so excited that a Dual Language Immersion Montessori program was opening up in Oaxaca. We checked out the school and immediately signed the girls up. It was perfect! The quality of materials, the attention to all the details, and the experience that Kelly and Abraham brought was very impressive.
Now three years later, the girls are so happy and in love with Paz. At Paz, they are loved. They are respected. And they are supported in their educational journey, socially and academically.
So why did I start my own campaign? It's because I want every child to have what my girls have at Paz regardless of income or socioeconomic status.
Every child deserves to have an amazing education like this.
I want to raise $5000 which covers 2 FULL scholarships for the entire 2018 - 2019 academic year. We want to send two more kids to Paz! We wish everyone could attend this super special school.
Will you help me!?! Please donate TODAY!!!!
Everyone who donates will get a special thank you from the Elmores!

In Oaxaca, the 2nd poorest state in Mexico, the average child only completes 7 ½ years of schooling. Both early and higher education is at risk. Only 30.5% of 3-year-olds attend any kind of preschool program. For students older than 15, enrollment drops from 91.3% to 37.9%. The reasons for these educational barriers vary, but in Oaxaca, even the public schools come with a high cost for families. Families with children attending public schools are required to provide everything but the teachers and the school building including uniforms, materials, books and activities fees. hey are often asked to pay for building repairs and teacher bonuses as well.
In addition to the costs, corruption and political upheaval plague the public schools. During the numerous teachers’ strikes, schools close, leaving parents to struggle with childcare and huge gaps in their child’s education.
At Paz, like Gandhi, we believe that to affect real change in society we must begin with the children through equitable quality education. The Montessori method teaches children peaceful conflict resolution, a deep appreciation and respect for self, others and their community. These skills are valued as much as lessons in math and language. Providing students with a profound love of learning, the tools they need to discover and learn, and awareness of their role in community and peacemaking will change the world.
While Paz believes that education is key to freeing Oaxaca of the systemic corruption and violence faced daily, many Oaxacans struggle with the most basic needs. Only 8% of Oaxacan’s do NOT lack one of life’s basic needs. With these economic struggles facing so many, the option of quality education is far out of reach.
Our goal at Paz is to make this quality education affordable and accessible for all by offering full and partial scholarships to 2/3 of the children attending our Dual Language Immersion Montessori program. To get closer to reaching this goal, we need $45,000 for the 2018–2019 academic year. This would cover the cost of 14 full scholarships and 23 partial scholarships. With your help we can reach this incredible goal. Your generosity will brighten a child’s future and open doors–not previously available–for a lifetime!
For many families, the educational outlook is bleak in Oaxaca. Paz “motivates a child to learn and a passion for life” and shines a light on a future full of possibilities!

It doesn’t take a lot...every donation makes a difference!
$15 pays for one student to eat two meals a day at Paz for each month.
$100 covers the cost of a single student’s partial scholarship for one month.
$400 pays for student materials for an entire month for 60 children. Paz does not ask families to bring a giant list of school supplies, as do many schools in the U.S. and Mexico.
$1,250 pays for half of a year of school for a child on a full scholarship.
$2,500 covers the cost of a full-year scholarship for a child.
At Paz, “diversity is celebrated and welcomed.”
