The mission of the Autism Support and Advocacy Center is to enable and empower individuals with Autism and other neurodivergence to contribute their skills and talents to the workforce, and to offer opportunities for them to build habits of daily living and connections with the community. We strive to model the strength of inclusive employment through experiential vocational training and long-term employment.
We embrace neurodivergence and understand that all identities are varied, complex, and intersectional. We believe in listening to, centering, and amplifying Autistic and other neurodivergent voices. We are committed to actively addressing racial and socioeconomic disparities in access to opportunities and outcomes.
In service of this mission, the ASAC is in the process of launching something big: Part & Parcel, a package-free bulk goods store, where we will serve as a model of neurodiversity through inclusive employment and community engagement, while contributing to equitable food systems and reducing waste.
The ASAC will also provide a series of classes (CORE), that target Communication, Organization, Residency, and Employment. These classes will be co-developed and co-fascilitated by neurodivergent and neurotypical educators and will be available to employees and other community members who would benefit, at no cost.
We have signed a lease on our new location, and have enough funds to rent it through the year. However, it needs to be upfitted (plumbing for sinks, electrical work, painting) and outfitted (shelving, gravity dispensers, containers, scoops, registers, refrigerators, and inventory!). We are fundraising to cover these start-up costs.
With you support, we can be a model for change in communities all around the country.
