Please donate and plan to join me, Zachary Miller (Research Associate in Columbia) Thursday, October 25 at 5:00 PM in Columbia to have fun watching and/or competing in a canoe and/or kayak time trial race to raise funds for The Y, Youth & Family Services (YFS), an organization for which I volunteer and serve as Advisory Board Chair.
YFS is the comprehensive social services branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington. I have volunteered with YFS for the past six years, which helps keep me connected with my community, Montgomery County, MD. Many of our programs serve low-income and marginalized residents, many of whom are immigrants and minorities. YFS goes beyond the traditional pool and gym programming model to help meet these families’ needs.
On Thursday, October 25 at 5:00 PM we'll gather at the dock on the lake behind the Whole Foods in Columbia (five minute walk from Columbia office) to watch IMPAQ colleagues compete in canoe and/or kayak race time trials. We will have three divisions— solo canoe, tandem canoe, and solo kayak. Whoever has the fastest times in each division will be the winners and new holders of ‘PAQ Paddles.
How: Participate by supporting the cause on my Crowdrise Page at whatever level you are comfortable. I suggest $25 as minimum donation to watch and/or participate in the race. If you wish to compete in the time trial, or can help during the event, please email me by Wednesday, 8/24, COB (firstname.lastname@example.org).
