I am fundraising to support the Paper Crane Foundation's research trip to Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania this August. The purpose of this trip is to test cutting edge technology for the diagnosis of Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs) on the battlefield, to evaluate the effects of altitude on TBI patients, and to raise awareness for TBIs.
Though I have never personally been affected by a TBI during my Naval service, I have had close friends, both military and civilian, that have had their lives turned upside down by TBIs. Our expedition will support multiple Veterans who have suffered life altering symptoms such as memory loss, severe headaches, and anxiety, which greatly impact their daily lives. They were fortunate to receive care at the Marcus Institute for Brain Health (MIBH) in Colorado and this research project will further allow MIBH to be able to better diagnose TBIs in patients and help them recover in real world environments. I will be participating on the trip as a videographer in order for the Paper Crane Foundation and for Veterans to better tell their story to the world. I will be matching all donations and paying my own way.
