We buy, restore and re-purpose old and failing homes in historic districts to utilize them in housing and social programs that benefit at-risk Veterans and help them re-integrate back into communities. Our initial pilot project, Rose Haven, involves restoring a 135-year-old house and using it as home for female veterans recovering from substance abuse. Many of these Vets suffer from physical trauma, emotional trauma, or both. Restoring these historic houses provides homes and a place to rehabilitate their bodies and souls – and catalyzes community sustainability. To further support the veterans in their rehabilitation, our research team of social and public health experts is developing a program of social resilience to help facilitate community re-integration.
Our community and volunteer support in Washington, NC has been fantastic, but we are looking to raise much needed funds to help buy critical features for the house, such as an HVAC system, Water Heater, a new roof, and refurbishing the electrical system, as well as help with restoring the house's exterior siding and other needs of an old house with great "bones" underneath.
