I had a normal and healthy pregnancy with my daughter Penelope. After I delivered her I unexpectedly started hemmorhaging and lost over half of my blood supply. It was only because of the quick decision by my doctor to perform an emergency hysterectomy on me that I am alive today. I was very lucky to be at one of the best hospitals in the state of Georgia to deliver my child. But others are not so fortunate. It wasn't until after my experience I learned of the increasing epidemic of maternal mortality in our world. It is when I also learned that almost all global maternal deaths can be prevented by ensuring that women have access to quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care. I am choosing to support Every Mother Counts in my upcoming half-marathon. They were created to raise awareness and to educate the public about maternal mortality. What better place to raise money that at Walt Disney World?! This is an issue that is deep in my heart and I want to do my part in helping. Any pledge/donation would be amazing and means more than I could ever express. Please also go to www.everymothercounts.org to read deeper into this sad statistic. Thank you so much for supporting me and Mother's around the globe.
