Poverty, defined simply, is the condition of having little or none. Five key elements of poverty include education, housing and energy, food, family and economic security, and health. Since 1966, Ozarks Area Community Action Corporation (OACAC) has worked toward alleviating the causes and conditions of poverty across Southwest Missouri. We offer proven and innovative solutions to poverty by addressing these five elements through our programs and projects.
The services OACAC provides reach people of all ages living in rural and urban areas. However, when a need is present and our traditional funding doesn’t allow coverage of that need, we identify this as a gap. To fill the gap, we look to the generosity of donors. Will you help us fill the gap?
Through contributions to OACAC, here are some of the gaps donations have filled:
Critical home repairs following weatherization, to ensure safety and energy efficiency
Training to all Housing Assistance recipients, ensuring they are educated about their housing rights
Transportation assistance for people who are working, seeking employment, or going to school
Affordable health screenings and medications to patients, including the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine
Expansion of the Vocational Opportunities Inspiring Children in Elementary (VOICE) and Reality Enrichment and Life Lessons (REALL) projects, vastly increasing the number of elementary, middle and high school students reached
Dental cleanings, exams and repair for children enrolled in Head Start
One in six people live in poverty across Southwest Missouri. Your gift makes a big difference to the children, adults, seniors, families, and communities we serve. Thank you.
