ALL KIDS DESERVE A COACH LIKE THE ONE THAT INSPIRED YOU
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), youth violence is a significant public health problem that affects thousands of young people each day. Urban Initiatives believes that providing Chicago youth with opportunities for success starts with unifying families, school communities and neighborhoods of all types. Youth violence is preventable and one of the primary prevention strategies is connecting youth to caring adults and activities. Young people's risk for violence can be buffered by healthy and safe relationships with adults, providing informal monitoring and guidance to youth.
Like Oliver Wyman, Urban Initiatives values "exceptional people - people with intelligence, energy, passion, emotional sensitivity, and a commitment to excellence." Urban Initiatives recruits and trains exceptional coaches to foster the positive development of the youth they serve. Over time, these relationships lead to students developing protective factors and skills such as effective problem-solving, communication, anger management and emotional regulation, all indicators that help to lower the risk for youth violence. This relationship-focused strategy lowers young people's risk for violence by promoting their feelings of connectedness to caring adults, their school and community. Urban Initiatives' coaches help to build a stronger Chicago for our students and we invite Oliver Wyman to join our cause.
