In honor of my dear Grandma Lorraine, who past away on September 4 at the age of 102, I’ve challenged myself to personally raise $5,000 to support the youth in our community who need it most. Going through her dusty photo albums, I saw a childhood and young adulthood filled with family in the outdoors: beaches in Santa Cruz, Monterey, and La Jolla; waterfalls and mountain peaks in Yosemite; deer and redwoods in Big Basin. Some of my most vivid memories are of those same places with my own parents. In my family, the outdoors has always been a place for connecting, healing and creating meaning. It wasn't until I saw my grandma's photos that I realized how this value was cultivated from one generation to the next and how truly fortunate I am to have recieved this gift and to be able to pass it on to the next generation.
The young people we serve at Outdoor Outreach are faced with challenges that disrupt their lives and prevent them from dreaming big and pursuing their dreams. Many don't have safe relationships or spaces in their lives. We provide them with ongoing outdoor experiences and opportunities to build healthy relationships. As they climb, bike and surf with supportive peers and mentors, they build resilience in the face of challenges and gain confidence in their ability to make a difference.
I need your help - now through September 27, Stand Together Foundation will match every gift to this campaign. A gift of ANY amount will be doubled to help us to get young people from underserved communities outside this fall.
Thank you for your generous support. It means a lot!!!
