Our Lady of the Lake Parish has been a presence in Verona and portions of West Orange for almost 100 years. As a parish community, we have helped the people to grow in knowledge and love of Jesus in the Catholic faith tradition. We have welcomed new members through the Sacramets of Initiation: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Through the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick people have experienced the healing presence of Christ. The Sacraments of Matrimony and Holy Orders have helped people to grow in love with each other and the Lord. When people were called home to the Lord, we have been present through various aspects of the Rite of Christian Burial. This parish is much more than a building. It isa spiritual home that helps a community celebrate lifes' sorrow and joy as we all journey together with Jesus Christ toward our heavenly home.
The world is experiencing an extraordinary change in what "normal life" is for all of us. The threat from the Coronavirus has most people isolated in their homes as they work from home and learn through virtual means. On a normal weekend, the Our Lady of the Lake Parish would generally receive $12,000 through the weekly collection at Mass. Other than the regular generosity of the people on Sunday, we have no other income stream. It is for this reason that we appeal to you through this platform.
At present, our worship space is open for public prayer from 6am - 6pm every day of the week during this time of crisis. There is plenty of room for people to spread out to spend some time in God's house with His Son, Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. All Masses are being celebrated, albeit privately. We will begin livestreaming the Mass on Saturday, 3/28 at 5:30pm. While our parish office is closed, we are still publishing our bulletin which is available in church and online. As we receive updates we are posting the information on our parish website, OLLVerona.org and on our Facebook page, Our Lady of the Lake (OLL) Parish Family. If there is an emergency, do not hesitate to reach out!
The Archdiocese of Newark
Welcome. The Archdiocese of Newark is coordinating with the team at GoFundMe to provide one online location for the faithful to support the critical needs of their own parish (through this page) or other parish communities (through the Parishes in Need fund). The faithful may also contribute through their usual channels (e.g., envelopes, other online giving, the Annual Appeal).
Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to your parish on the parish’s GoFundMe page, or to the Parishes in Need fund, which will be used to conduct outreach to those in need and support those communities struggling to continue to pay their employees and church utility bills through this crisis. Contributions raised through the parish GoFundMe page will benefit that parish.
Cardinal Tobin has waived the usual archdiocesan assessment for contributions raised through this initiative. GoFundMe does not charge a platform fee (0%). There is a 0% platform fee and only an industry-standard payment processing fee of 1.9% + $0.30 per donation. If a charity receives a donation of $100, they will net $97.80. Donors will also have the option to tip GoFundMe Charity to support their continued business.
Thank you for your generosity to your parish and to those parish communities unable to meet their critical needs alone.
