Almost 10 years ago, the world lost an amazing man. John "Oscar" O'Neill, our Dad and Papa, passed away on 9/26/08 after a 6 year fight against a rare neurological disorder called Multiple System Atrophy. Multiple system atrophy, or MSA, is a degenerative neurologic condition that affects both men and women, usually starting in the 50’s or early 60’s. MSA is considered a type of parkinsonism but with more widespread effects on the brain and body. Symptoms of MSA include a combination of Parkinson-like movement disorders and problems with the autonomic, or body-regulating division of the nervous system. There is no cure for MSA. While we could remember the illness, we choose to remember the man whose quiet strength we admire, whose wisdom we will never forget, and whose Irish eyes are still smiling down on us from heaven! On March 10th, 2018, Megan, Maura, and Shea will run the United Airlines Rock "N" Roll Washington DC half marathon in memory of our Dad and Papa. March is MSA awareness month and we are raising funds for the Multiple System Atrophy Coalition. Please consider making a donation in memory of Oscar and in honor of all those whose lives are affected by MSA.
