"Edgehill Young Men of the Future Program" Creating Productive Adults!
New program by the O.N.E./FRC Advisory Council and concerned residents. It is our belief that it is the community's responsibility to teach our young people to become productive adults. Our plan is to train young men ages 7 to 14 the value of working in the community and being of service to seniors. The youth will be taught character and moral values, along with leadership and organizational skills. Because of the youth crime and violence in the community it is imperative that we show our youth alternatives to the negatives they see each day.
Working with parents in the MOMS of EDGEHILL program, the Edgehill Community Garden, our police officers, schools, churches, and businesses in the community, along with government agencies we will focus on bringing positive presentations and resources to the youth. Field trips to places the youth have never seen before, court rooms, council chambers, cultural arts museums, universities, lawyers and doctor's offices. The goal is to teach our children that anything and everything is possible The young men will also work along side of seniors doing "Intergenerational gardening" to receive a stipend which will teach the value of working and getting paid for a job well done. The youth will be required to get a savings' account which will teach the value earning for their future. We believe that providing our youth with these core values will serve as alternatives to crime and violence, and the foundation for productive adulthood.
