In June of 2020, the Oregon State 4-H National Shotgun Team will travel to Grand Island, Nebraska to compete in the 4-H National Shooting Sports Competition. Each year, the four best 4-H shooters from each state are invited to compete at the national level. An invitation to 4-H Nationals is truly an honor for these young competitors as they are only allowed to compete at this level one time in their career. This once in a lifetime trip marks the culmination of years of hard work and practice. The competitors are selected based on their scores at the 4-H State competition, which usually means they are from throughout the state. This year however, all four of the top shooters (Seth Colton, Carson King, James Lange and Logan Lee) are from Jefferson County. This is truly a rare occasion and is a testimony to the strong 4-H Shooting program.
Travel and participation in the National Contest is expensive. To fund their trip to Nebraska, the team has a fundraising goal of $15,000. During the next few months, you will see these youth out working to raise funding in addition to their community work and training.
To help the team meet this goal, you can donate funds at GoFundMe or participate in one of the many fundraising activities planned over the next few months. To make a direct gift or to learn more about the team email: ORSSEP@gmail.com, or go online to ORSSEP.com.
Please help this team travel to Nebraska and represent the State of Oregon at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Competition.
In the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, youth learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, and much more. To learn more about 4-H and all the activities and clubs they offer, contact your local Extension office.
