Hospital stays can be stressful for young patients and their families. On top of the fears and anxieties that come from undergoing treatments and procedures, many young patients can feel isolated and alone. They might not be able to see friends or family members, nor enjoy some of their favorite activities to pass the time.
To help patients and families feel more comfortable, regain a sense of normalcy, and find some fun and distraction during a hospital stay, the Child and Family Life program at Michigan Medicine C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital provides books, toys, art supplies, and other items that can help brighten a child’s day.
These items are all donated by generous members of the Mott community, who have helped ensure that our toy supply stays fully stocked and ready to cheer up every family we serve.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and hospital protocols designed to prevent the spread of the virus, we have been giving away toys to patients at an increased rate to help make up for other activities that were canceled for safety reasons. We were also unable to accept toy donations during the height of the pandemic.
We do not expect COVID-19 prevention procedures to be lifted any time soon, and we anticipate that we will continue to have a greater need to provide our patients with toys, books, and other items for the foreseeable future.
Right now, our shelves are empty. So, we are asking for your help.
Thanks to the generosity of our partner, Delta Air Lines, all donations to Operation Restock the Shelves will be matched up to $10,000! That means your gift will have double the impact for our Little Victors.
Your donation — at any level — will bring happiness and encouragement to our Little Victors by helping us restock some of our most popular items:
· Board books for babies and toddlers (Ages 0-3)
· Toys for babies and toddlers (Ages 0-3)
· Play-Doh and accessories
· Lego building blocks
· Coloring books
· Craft kits (more complex projects for tweens and teens)
· Character toys (super heroes, Paw Patrol, etc.)
· Art supplies
· Hot Wheels
· Uno card games
Toys provide our Little Victors with much-needed distractions, a little extra fun, and the chance to feel like a kid.
Thank you for your consideration, and for sharing in our commitment to provide a more comforting and enjoyable experience for the families who receive care at Mott. Your involvement truly offers greater hope and healing during difficult times.
Thank you for your support!
