Operation Helping Hounds, a volunteer-based nonprofit, focuses on the plight of hound dogs used for hunting, bred in puppy mills, or available in mass quantities without adoption interest, in certain US states. These dogs are typically young and friendly. They have a high probability of being abused, abandoned by owners, and quickly put to sleep in large numbers when relinquished to Animal Control facilities.
Feb 28th, 2021 is the end of hunting season in KY. For the following 3 weeks, dogs will be dumped at shelters, found emaciated and starving in the local woods, or coming out of the woods. The KY shelters see an increase in Hounds in need during the month of March.
On March 20th 2021, we would like to send a custom animal trailer to KY to pick up as many of these hounds/beagles in need as we can, direct from the shelters. Volunteers will be driving the diesel truck towing the trailer. On the way back we will be stopping in Tulsa OK, to pick up any dogs in need there, that can fit comfortably in the trailer. The Trailer can fit approx 13 medium to large hounds and 24 small dogs (beagle size)
We will need to pay for Pre Transport Vetting per USDA rules, for each dog;
Historically we have been charged approx $70 per dog, depending on the vet the KY people use
We also need to put gas into the truck, thats towing the trailer.
If by some off chance we do not find enough dogs in KY, we will reach out to SC as their hunting season ends in March, and also work with Helpless Hounds Dog Rescue in Tulsa. Either way we will bring back A LOT of dogs on this trip.
So we are asking for help to cover these costs so that Priceless Pets rescue in Chino hills can concentrate on vetting the dogs when they arrive in California. Vetting will be spay/neuter, VAX, micro chip, Flea, Tick meds, deworming, and other medical needs on a case by case basis
Please help us help these dogs
