Operation Grow Food - Yolloxochitl’s mission to bring urban farms to South Phoenix
Think Farming! Think Free Food! Yolloxochitl (yolo-so-chee) is at the forefront of transforming urban farming and we need your help!
During this unprecedented time, Yolloxochitl is looking to bring solutions to some of the most underserved communities in South Phoenix. For these communities, the struggle was already real before COVID-19. With most South Phoenix residents living in poverty, the urgency is at an all-time high. Yolloxochitl is fully invested in nourishing the community and giving free produce to those families in greatest need. The South Phoenix community is an area where 80% of families with children are SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program) recipients and 33% percent of families with children below the age of 17 are living below the poverty line.
Yolloxochitl is asking for funding to be able to give these families more than processed foods, fast foods, and bologna sandwiches. Phoenix bears the burden of over 75% of the food deserts in the Phoenix Metro, many of those food deserts are in South Phoenix. Yolloxochitl is growing fresh produce to be the relief between the underserved in South Phoenix and the poor infrastructure that plagues our inner cities nationwide. Access to nutritional and energy-rich foods shouldn’t be dependent on where one lives or where a child’s family lives, Yolloxochitl understands this and will provide nutritious foods to the families in need first.
Now, more than ever, these communities need our help. 100% of your donations are tax-deductible and will be used with transparency to build urban farms in South Phoenix where the farm-fresh produce will be used to feed the surrounding communities that have been hit hard by COVID-19 and poor infrastructure.
“Together we have the power to make a positive impact in communities that need our help.”
