Open Mic/Hope for Haiti is a performance fundraising event held at the Wheeler School in Providence, RI. Since the devastating Haitian earthquake in 2010, students at the Wheeler School have used their many talents in spoken word, musical performance, dance, and stand up comedy to raise money for the Patriote de la Zone School in the remote mountainous Vergeon Valley region of southwest Haiti. Over time, Wheeler School students' support has contributed to providing an education each year to 350 Haitian children in grades 1-8. This support has helped to provide a water system, to deliver emergency food aid post Hurricane Matthew, and to organize a medical mission to the school. In addition, Wheeler's consistent on-going efforts have been instrumental in the Patriote de la Zone School being recognized by the Haitian Ministry of Education as an outstanding school and being included in their PEQH pilot program to raise educational standards in Haitian schools.
Given the current concerns about COVID-19, Wheeler has had to cancel their March 13, 2020 Open Mic/Hope for Haiti event. We have set up this This GoFundMe campaign as an opportunity to support Patriote de la Zone remotely. Your donation makes a very real difference in the lives of Patriote de la Zone's deserving students and hardworking teachers. Thank you!
