Our homeless outreach ministry began on January 20th, 2018. I have worked with the homeless mentally ill population for more than 15 years after grad school in Social Work, and I have never look back. January 2017, I got laid off in fact I have worked for this organization for more than 15 years and it was bitter sweet because of my love for the women we served. Homeless people are the most genuine individuals that you will ever come across. I knew my desire was to do something different but, in another capacity, to serve them. In my heart for years, I have had the desire to open a soup kitchen and food pantry. I did not know how it would happen or how to even start. I decided to follow the passion God placed in my heart to serve others. I spoke to my husband and he said start where you are, and I did. I honestly did not even think about money because the desire was so great. We are not rich or financial well off, and it is very difficult, my pray every day to God is to touch people hearts to give to feed others and for Him to tremendously bless them in return. We started with 26 breakfast meals and now we served almost 200 meals to men, women and children twice or more a month in the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. We utilize our basement to store all the dry goods, food containers, baking equipment's, beverage dispensers and other items. The breakfast meals are prepared in my home and are served out of the trunk of my car at different street corners. Breakfast meals serve are Pancakes, French Toast, Croissants and eggs; beverages are coffee or tea. We have 4 volunteers that assist us. Food preparation begins at 2:00AM on a Saturday morning. Our desire is to do more, we are a very small ministry, so everything is done in our home. We will love to have the space to open a soup kitchen with a dinning space where they all can come, sit and enjoy a warm meal. There are times when we do not have enough breakfast meals to distribute so many are turn away. One of the qualities that we exemplified is that everyone is welcome and should be treated with dignity and respect. Presently, we do not receive any funding from any organizations or corporation but small donations from one or two individuals who are impacted by what we are doing. We greatly appreciate any contribution you can give. God Bless, Thank You.
